The Perspective Research Centre (PRC) is an independent research and educational centre dedicated to the study of visual, optical and technical perspective across art, science and technology.
It examines how spatial reality is seen, imaged, represented, measured, transformed and understood, bringing together research from art history, geometry, optics, visual perception, architecture, photography, cinema, scientific imaging, computer graphics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and related fields.
Direction and Intellectual Heritage
The PRC was founded and is directed by Dr Alan Radley FRSA, whose work spans physics, optics, astronomy, imaging systems, visual technology and the long-term study of perspective.
The Centre also preserves and develops important lines of research associated with Professor Kim H. Veltman. His work on perspective, visual knowledge, Leonardo da Vinci, media theory and the organisation of knowledge forms a major part of the PRC’s intellectual heritage.
Research and Resources
The PRC maintains and develops the Library of Perspective →, Bibliography of Perspective →, Encyclopedia of Perspective →, Dictionary of Perspective →, Kim Veltman Archive →, image collections, study materials, research notes and educational resources.
At the centre of this work is Perspective Category Theory →, a framework for organising the many categories, classes, types, forms, processes and applications of perspective.
Our Long-Term Aim
The Centre’s long-term aim is to help establish perspective science → as a coherent interdisciplinary field connecting the arts, sciences, humanities, design disciplines and modern visual technologies.
