Dictionary: Digital Edition

The Dictionary of Perspective: Digital Edition is the searchable online edition of the Dictionary of Perspective, providing direct access to the Dictionary through the Perspective Research Centre website.

It is designed for rapid searching, reference and exploration of the Dictionary’s terminology, classifications, related concepts and interconnected entries without requiring the user to work through the printed volume page by page.

The Digital Edition is based on the same wider Dictionary project as the Print Edition and provides access to the PRC’s full Dictionary database of 4,059 entries and approximately 330,000+ words of Dictionary content.

Two Levels of Digital Access

The Digital Edition is being developed with two levels of access: a free open-access version for general visitors and a forthcoming subscriber version for users who require unrestricted access.

Free Open-Access Edition

The free public version allows visitors to search the Dictionary without creating an account.

  • 5 searches per day
  • Maximum 10 results per search
  • One results page per search
  • Search access to Dictionary headwords and selected entry content
  • No subscription or account currently required

This limited-access version is intended to provide useful open access to the Dictionary while also protecting the complete database from unrestricted bulk extraction or automated copying.

Subscriber Access — Coming Soon

PRC accounts and paid subscription access to the Digital Edition are currently being developed.

The forthcoming subscriber version is intended to provide substantially expanded access to the Dictionary, including unrestricted searching and navigation through the database while retaining controlled page-by-page delivery of results.

  • PRC user accounts
  • Paid subscription access
  • Unrestricted Dictionary searching
  • A–Z navigation
  • Multiple results pages
  • Continued 10-results-per-page delivery

Subscriptions and account access are coming soon. Further information, pricing and registration options will be added to this page when the service becomes available.

Designed for Search and Research

The Digital Edition is designed to make the Dictionary easier to interrogate as a connected knowledge resource.

Users can search across Dictionary entries and explore terminology concerned with:

  • perspective types and forms;
  • definitions and classifications;
  • visual and optical perspective;
  • natural, graphical and mathematical perspective;
  • image formation and projection;
  • space, viewpoint and field of view;
  • perspective phenomena;
  • instruments and imaging systems;
  • art, architecture and design;
  • photography and cinema;
  • computer graphics and virtual environments;
  • computer vision, robotics and artificial intelligence;
  • historical and contemporary terminology;
  • new and refined PRC concepts.

Digital Edition and Print Edition

The Digital Edition and Print Edition are two forms of the same Dictionary of Perspective, but each is designed for a different kind of use.

The Digital Edition is designed for rapid searching, filtering, navigation and online reference.

The Print Edition is the fixed, paginated, published book designed for sustained reading, citation, annotation, teaching, research and long-term library use.

The two editions are therefore complementary rather than competing versions of the Dictionary.
