About the Library of Perspective

The Library of Perspective is the Perspective Research Centre’s specialist research library devoted to perspective and its many related fields.

It now exists in two complementary forms: a major physical research library of approximately 5,000 books, and a growing digital Library of Perspective delivered through the PRC Universal Knowledge System (UKS).

Physical Library of Perspective

The Physical Library of Perspective is a specialist collection of approximately 5,000 books, assembled over many decades for research into perspective, optics, art, geometry, architecture, visual representation, imaging, science, technology and the history of knowledge.

The collection also incorporates a substantial part of Professor Kim H. Veltman’s research library and forms one of the principal research foundations of the Perspective Research Centre.

Digital UKS Library of Perspective

The Digital Library of Perspective is the online research environment of the PRC Universal Knowledge System (UKS).

Rather than being a simple catalogue, it allows researchers to work directly with digitised books, papers, articles, archives and other source material across one or more Library Collections.

Users can select Collections, refine the material by Record Type / Form, Subject and Topic / Project, establish a defined Content Target, and then use Library View or Library Search to investigate that material.

Selected publications can be opened in Context Windows for direct reading, comparison and Multi-Context exploration.

The digital Library currently includes major PRC collections such as the Kim Veltman Archive, with further collections and publications being added progressively.

Two Libraries, One Research Resource

The physical and digital libraries serve different but related purposes.

  • The Physical Library of Perspective preserves and develops the PRC’s specialist collection of printed books and research materials.
  • The Digital UKS Library of Perspective provides online access to searchable digital Collections and source publications.

Together they form the Library of Perspective: a developing research resource for the study of perspective across art, science, technology, vision and the history of knowledge.
