The current PRC Library system has two simple routes into Library Search. Both lead to the same Library Search screen, but they begin with a different search scope.
Route 1 — Search a Collection
- Choose Search Library Collections from the PRC sidebar.
- The Library Collections screen lists the available Collections.
- Select a Collection, for example Veltman Archive.
- The selected Collection opens as Library Collection — Veltman Archive.
- Choose Search this Collection.
- Library Search opens with that Collection already selected as the area to be searched.
- Enter a word or phrase and run the search.
Use this route when you want to search within one particular Collection.
Route 2 — Search the Global Library
- Choose Search Global Library.
- Library Search opens with the entire currently available Global Library selected.
- Enter a word or phrase and run the search.
Use this route when you want the search to cover the whole Global Library currently available through the system.
Why do both routes lead to the same screen?
There is only one Library Search environment. The difference is the starting search scope:
- Search this Collection starts with one Collection selected.
- Search Global Library starts with the whole available Global Library selected.
This is intentional. You do not need to learn two different search systems.
Reviewing Search Results
After a search, the system first shows the publications that contain matches. Each matching publication can report the number of matching pages and the total number of Search Matches found within it.
Expand a publication to inspect matching pages and snippets. The highlighted term helps you decide whether the match is relevant before opening the source more deeply.
Explore selected publications side by side
You can select relevant publications from the Search Results and choose Explore selected side-by-side. The selected publications open in movable Context Windows.
A Context Window may open at a Search Match, but you can continue moving through the surrounding publication. This lets you compare relevant material from several sources at the same time.
Returning to Search Results
Choose Return to Library Search, or press Esc, to leave the Context Window workspace and return to the Search Results.
One important point
The UKS is still developing. The public guide describes the functions that are currently live. Additional Collection, classification and search options may be introduced later, but they should not be assumed until they appear in the live interface.
